Shared libraries
Cook from one shelf with up to six people. Join with an invite on any plan, or create one on Pro.
Shared libraries let a small group cook from the same collection. Everyone in a library puts in recipes from their own cookbook, and everyone can read them and keep a copy. Manage them on mobile: Settings → Shared Libraries.
Join a library
- Get an invite token from the library owner.
- Open Settings → Shared Libraries.
- Tap New or join and choose Join a shared library.
- Paste the token and send the join request.
- Wait for the owner to accept.
Joining is available on Free and up. You need to be signed in with cloud sync: Local Unlock keeps recipes on one device, so a Local Unlock cookbook can join and read a library but cannot add to one.
Create a library
Creating a shared library requires Pro. Tap New or join and choose New shared library, then name it.
- Up to six people, including you
- Accept or decline join requests under Waiting on you
- A library you own carries an Invite control on its row: tap it any time to share the token again
Add a recipe
Anyone in a library can add recipes, not only the owner.
- Open one of your own recipes.
- Tap ⋯ on the photo and choose Add to shared library.
- Pick the library.
A library that already holds the recipe is ticked in that list; tap it to take the recipe out again. You can only add recipes from your own cookbook, and a library holds up to 500 recipes in all.
The library shows your recipe as it is in your cookbook, so an edit you make shows there too, and deleting the recipe from your cookbook takes it out of the library.
See what is in a library
In Settings → Shared Libraries, tap a library and choose Recipes. Each recipe shows who added it and when.
- Your own recipes open as usual, with everything you can do to them.
- Someone else’s recipe opens to read. Tap Save a copy to my cookbook to make it yours: the copy is a new recipe you can edit, scale and cook, and it counts toward your plan’s recipe limit. Changes you make to it stay with you, and the original stays with the person who shared it.
A recipe’s own AI photo can only be shown to the person whose cookbook it is in, so everyone else sees a plain cover in the library, and a copy gets a photo of its own. Photos from Discover recipes show for everyone.
Take a recipe out
On the library’s Recipes screen, tap ⋯ on a recipe (or press and hold it) and choose Remove from this library. The person who added a recipe can take it out, and so can the library owner. Removing a recipe from a library never deletes it from anyone’s cookbook, and copies people already saved stay theirs.
To flag something inappropriate, choose Report this recipe from the same menu.
Members and leaving
Tap a library and choose Members to see who is in it. Anyone can report a member; the owner can also remove one. When someone leaves or is removed, the recipes they added leave the library with them. The owner can delete the library, which ends it for everyone; recipes stay in each person’s own cookbook.
Web
Shared libraries are on mobile only. The web companion does not show or manage them yet.
