Events and party planning

Plan a menu for one occasion, scale the food, assign bringers, and prepare a shopping list and cook schedule.

Events bring the food for one occasion together: a birthday, family dinner, or potluck. They are available to every signed-in account, including Free, and sync between mobile and the web companion.

Create an event

Open Events from the + menu, Settings → Kitchen, or the Plan pane. Give the event a name, choose a date, and set the guest count. On mobile, use a guest-count suggestion or enter your own number from 1 to 500.

Add saved recipes or write in dishes under Starters, Mains, Sides, Dessert, and Drinks. A written-in dish is a reminder; it does not supply ingredient amounts or cooking times.

Amounts and portions

Choose Light, Standard, Hearty, or Feast portions for the event. Changing the guest count or portion size updates the menu’s amounts.

  • A recipe with a people-serving yield scales to the nearest quarter of a recipe.
  • Whole items, such as pies, round up to whole recipes.
  • A batch or piece-count yield does not tell us how many people it feeds. Set its amount yourself when needed.

Use a dish’s Amount action to override its calculated scale. That choice stays in place when the guest count changes.

Who is bringing what

Use Bringer to add a person’s name to a dish. They do not need an account or an invitation. The plan can group dishes by who is responsible, with your dishes first.

On mobile, swipe an event for Plan, Copy, or Delete. Swipe a dish for Bringer, Amount, or Remove. These actions are also available by long-pressing.

Shopping for the event

Choose Add to shopping list from the plan or the event’s menu. Ingredients go onto your existing shopping list using the same amounts shown in the plan.

Dishes assigned to another bringer are left off. Recipes without a usable serving yield contribute their original amounts, with a note to check them. Pantry matches arrive ticked so you can review whether you own enough. Rebuilding the weekly meal-plan shopping list keeps the event’s items.

Cook schedule and printed plan

Set a serving time to get a schedule worked backwards from that time. Recipes without usable timing are listed separately with a reason. Cooking times do not multiply with the serving count: larger batches need your judgment, and the plan flags them. It also calls out dishes that may compete for oven space.

Open Plan to read the menu, amounts, bringers, and schedule. Mobile can create a PDF for the share sheet; the web companion opens a printable plan.
